A smooth, acne-free skin is always attractive. Nobody wants a face full of zits and blemishes. We want fresh and young complexion that is vibrant and glowing with life. For the lucky ones with good skin genes, maintaining a flawless skin may take just a bit of effort. But for others, it may take more than a simple regime to get rid of pimples and acne that never seem to go away.

Here are some quick steps that can help you get rid of acne and clear up your skin:

1. Maintain hormonal balance

Sometimes our hormones can go out of whack. And this can lead to terrible breakouts. One of the simplest ways to help balance our hormones is to drink lemon water. Lemon juice is alkalinizing, which means it helps balance the acidity and alkalinity of our body. Reduce if not eliminate acidic food and drinks in your diet like coffee, refined grains, alcohol, soda, and other similar stuff. Instead load up on veggies, fruits, and healthy fats from fatty fish, nuts, and seeds.

2. Improve gut health

Studies have shown the direct link between our skin and gut. By maintaining a healthy gut flora, we can also have clear, acne-free complexion. Our skin responds to gut imbalance, resulting in breakouts or skin irritations. To help keep a healthy digestive tract, take a good quality probiotics supplement. Kefir and other natural fermented food products can also be a healthy source of good bacteria. Also avoid taking antibiotics unless prescribed by a doctor. Antibiotics can kill good gut bacteria, leading to gut-flora imbalance and soon terrible acne.

3. Make use of herbal oils and other plant extract

There are many herbs and plant extracts that have antibacterial and antifungal properties including tea tree oil and aloe vera extract. Concocting a paste out of cucumber and lemon juice is also a great natural remedy against acne. You can apply any of these herbal treatment directly to the affected spot using a Q-tip. This treatment should help dry up acne and slowly eliminate it.

4. Use retinoids or vitamin A retinol to treat severe acne

There’s no perfect remedy for worse acne cases; but retinol is quite close. It is in fact one of the best treatments for severe adult acne. These products are either derm-prescribed or you can buy over-the-counter topical retinol to treat acne, which comes in the form of either a cream or serum.

Taking a good vitamin A supplement is also a great way to improve skin health. At the same time vitamin A is a natural anti-ageing treatment. It speeds up cell turnover and boost collagen production, leaving our skin blemish-free and wrinkle-free.

Acne is ugly. But thankfully, we can control and prevent them from popping up our face. By simply applying the above tips, having beautiful, clear, and young skin is possible.
