5 Natural Homemade Protein Smoothies

Posted By Lovella Sitoy in Rapunzel on Nov 18, 2015

Protein is one of the most essential nutrients that our body needs. We need protein for cell repair, muscle building, and immune system function. Without sufficient proteins, our body will become weak and prone to many diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer.

Protein deficiency can also manifest in our appearance. Nails become brittle, our hair falls out, and our skin looks dull and saggy. Do you know that keratin proteins are naturally produced in the body?

By increasing our protein intake, we can boost keratin production and make our hair, skin, and nails healthier.

According to the Harvard School of Public Health, ‘not all protein sources are good sources’. Some good protein sources include:

Protein-rich dairy

Greek yogurt
Cheeses i.e. cottage cheese and swiss cheese
Milk e.g. soy milk and almond milk

Legumes & whole grains

Nuts and seeds e.g. almonds, hemp seeds, chia seeds, and walnuts
Quinoa
Wheat germ
Oats

Protein-packed fruits & vegetables

Leafy greens e.g. spinach, kale, and broccoli
Peas
Dried fruits like apricots & raisins
Other fruits i.e. avocados, bananas, berries, peaches, figs, dates, prunes & cantaloupe

What better way to get our regular dose of protein than drinking a glass of rich and delicious homemade protein shakes or smoothies!
